Holidays
Hi, my name is Vicky and I am a student at Sandringham School.
Many of my friends would prefer to holiday abroad than in the United Kingdom, despite this country offering many destinations for enjoyable holidays. Although I can see the attraction of flying to amazing rainforests, sandy white beaches or even enormous snowy mountains, there are many places in the United Kingdom that appeal to me more.
I visit Cornwall for my family holidays and find the huge variety of beaches perfect not only for relaxing, but also for exploring. From the beautiful sands and surfing possibilities of Newquay to the inspiring rock formations of Tintagel, Cornwall is a great coastal location for a sea-side holiday. When I visited the area last year the weather was fantastic with boiling hot sun lasting the whole week. The perfect blue sky added to the stunning and breath-taking views of the coastline. I particularly enjoyed St Michael’s Mound where you can walk across the beach to the island when the tide is out and take a boat trip back when the tide is in. This was both exciting and fun for my entire family.
However, not everyone associates holidays with sand and sea. Some people may prefer adventure or historical based holidays. This doesn’t excite me as much as my usual holiday, but there are some aspects where I can see the appeal. When I was young I went on an adventure holiday to the Isle of Wight with my school friends. There was a huge variety of activities for us to do from rock-climbing to canoeing and even snowboarding. This was great fun when I was a child, however I would now choose to relax and indulge myself on my holiday.

Nevertheless in the future I would like to go on holiday to Australia, although it would be quite expensive. There are many remarkable things to do there, from visiting the scorching outback to seeing the interesting culture and the incredible wildlife. There are a great range of places to see! The only reason I would not want to visit the country would be because of the amount of insects and animals there. I am terrified of having a spider crawling on my leg or seeing a snake on the ground.
For me the most important part of going on holiday is to have an amazing time. Regardless of where you visit or the activities you do, a holiday enables you to escape from the normality of your daily routine. Whether it’s laying on a beach or touring ancient castles, I think the reason for a holiday is to enjoy it!
